Privacy Policy
Last updated: 15 July 2026
Flip ("we", "us", "our") is developed by Ben Copeman (bc_46@btinternet.com), an individual developer based in the UK. This policy explains what data Flip collects and how it's used.
What we collect
- Account info - your email address (and name, if you add one), via our authentication provider (Clerk), when you sign in.
- Photos you scan - sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to analyze the item and estimate resale value. Photos are processed in real time and are not stored on our servers afterward - they're saved only on your own device (and your camera roll), so they remain accessible in your scan history even if you're offline.
- Usage data - your subscription tier and how many scans you've used, stored on our servers so we can enforce your plan's monthly limit.
- Anonymous device ID - a random identifier generated on your device before you sign in, used to apply fair-use rate limits and your one free scan. If you later sign in, this ID becomes associated with your account.
- Price alerts - if you set a price alert, the item name and target price you choose are stored on our servers, tied to your account, so we can re-check the market and notify you.
- Push notification token - if you enable notifications, we store a device token (via Expo's push service) so we can deliver price alerts to you.
- Purchase data - if you subscribe or buy a scan bundle, payment is handled entirely by Apple/Google and our billing provider (RevenueCat) - we never see your card details.
- Live pricing data - to show comparable listings, we query eBay's public listings API using details from your scan (not your personal information).
- Crash and error data - if the app crashes or hits an error, basic diagnostic information is sent to our crash-reporting provider (Sentry) to help us fix it.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your data to anyone.
- We don't store your photos on our servers after analyzing them.
- We don't share your email or scan data with anyone besides the service providers listed above, who process it only to run the app (Clerk for sign-in, Anthropic for analysis, RevenueCat for payments, Sentry for crash reports, Expo for notification delivery).
Your choices
You can permanently delete your account and all associated server-side data at any time from within the app (Account → Profile → Delete Account), or by visiting our account deletion page if you no longer have the app installed. Scan history saved on your device can be cleared from within the app at any time. You can turn off notifications in your device settings.
Flip isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.
